Panels and Activities: what’s the difference?
It’s essential to understand the difference between a “panel” and an “activity.” A panel is a structured moment of engagement, typically in the form of a workshop. In this context, we expect a speaker arguing about a specific content to an audience, maybe followed by a discussion. The format of a panel is clear and organized: there’s a presenter and an audience, where participants may engage by asking questions or contributing within a structured framework, when appropriate.
In contrast, an activity is an informal, spontaneous gathering, designed to bring together groups with shared interests. No structured expectations are placed here; it’s a social occasion, like a gathering of enthusiasts or a meet-and-greet among people who share a passion, whether it’s for photography, storytelling or collectible card games. In these activities, our role is simply to provide a suitable space for participants to freely interact. We don’t require formal presentations or any specific hosting, other than logistical or technical support to ensure a comfortable and safe environment.
